God,

In my office once again . . . planning retreats and mission trips

and the big discipleship kickoff next week. My mind is drifting. . . .

I catch myself glancing at my watch

and trying to remember what class Emily’s in.

Picturing locker #219 and her stack of books all mixed together. Central

High School. Her world.

Home ec: Trying to visualize how far along her

dress is by now and how the material we picked out looks.

World literature: She called last night around 2:30 a.m. Said she couldn’t

sleep because of the nightmare. Isn’t ready for the book report that’s due

today. Wondering if she’ll be called on to report.

Trig: Supposed to have a test today. More tension to add to her already

pressure-filled world.

Health: Wondering if the open discussion is still on abuse, and if I’ll be getting

a phone call in a minute relaying the aloneness.

I want to intercede, Father.

Teach me how to help carry the weight.

When there are no more tears left for her to cry, let them fill my eyes.

When she can’t find the words, help me seek them.

When she has no strength, allow me to stand in her place.

Show me how to make intercession a living reality.
